The word 'fortuneteller' conjures up visions of gypsies, swindlers, and people on the run trying to make a quick buck. For that reason, I believe that the word 'psychic' has for the most part replaced the older and more misunderstood term.
Fortune telling has been around since the beginning of man's existence. In fact early man was probably better equipped than we are today to predict the future. Why? Because our left brain capacity was less developed. Decisions were based more on our 'psychic' sixth sense that is also found in less evolved life forms. We call this psychic ability instinct. Animals use instinct and non logical information all the time to sense danger, find food, and take care of their basic needs.

Despite the negative connotation that comes with the word 'fortuneteller', I'm sure there were some people who benefited from their services. After all, without customers, fortunetellers would not have been as successful as they were.
The question is, were these fortunetellers really predicting the future or were they merely extorting money from poor gullible individuals? The answer cannot be known for sure but based on our experiences with psychics today we can formulate an educated guess as to the nature of fortunetellers in the past.
What Is The Difference Between A Fortune Teller and A Psychic?
Essentially the term fortuneteller and psychic can be interchanged even today, however the process of predicting the future has evolved over the years. Originally fortunetellers concerned themselves merely with predicting the future. i.e. you will inherit a lot of money, you will find love, someone will offer you a better job, ... Today some psychics may make predictions like this as well, however the process of making predictions is far more 'advanced' today than it was in the past.
Why Have Psychics Evolved From The Days Of Fortune Telling?
The reason for a shift in psychic predictions and 'fortune telling' is our own evolution. We've come to understand natural laws like the Law of Attraction. We've come to better understand psychology and how people create the lives that they create. Also many psychics have come to realize that the future has not been written yet. It can be changed depending on the actions people take today.
Most psychics today also understand the 'placebo' effect. If someone really believes in the what you're telling them, their live is likely to turn out exactly like you predicted! We create all our life experiences based on our thoughts, words, and confidence in what we believe in! That's why some psychics know they will be doing you a tremendous disservice by giving you information that is contrary to what you want to create in your life!
So today the term psychic is more about counseling or giving advice on what to do rather than fortune telling. A good psychic will also help you with the confidence you need to attract anything you want into your life. Yes a psychic can predict likely futures based on their perceptions of people and their patterns of creating but the answers psychics give today may not be as clear cut as those given by fortunetellers years ago. This is a very good thing.
And then one needs to consider the education of people today compared to years ago. Without technology, advanced communications, and the knowledge we have today it's easy to see that some people were no doubt taken advantage of by fortunetellers who were no more psychic than the average Joe. All they were doing is telling people what they wanted to hear in exchange for money so they could put food on the table and pay the rent.
Are Psychics Able To Accurately Predict The Future?
Today the world of psychics is still misunderstood but their evolution towards helping people create the life they want is very welcome. I know many psychics and I believe that all of them are sincere. I believe that all of them think that they are gifted as genuine psychics. I'm sure that a small handful still 'tell fortunes' and are not helping people at all, but these psychics will not last long. There are a few bad apples in any profession. They'll quickly go out of business and the incidence of people taking advantage of other people I believe is very low. The vast majority of psychics today are working hard to give people good value for their money.
How To Choose A Psychic That's Right For You
What I've found is that all the psychics that I've met have something to offer. They are all gifted and talented. However all psychics are not for everyone. What I mean is that some people connect with certain psychics more than others. I my opinion there is very little competition between psychics for business because the service they provide is so personal. People are more comfortable talking about their personal problems when they feel a connection with someone and feel that the person really cares about them. So the 'psychic' messages I receive from some psychics have very little meaning to me. I feel that some psychics are not on my 'wave length' and don't understand me. Therefore I discount their messages and have very little confidence in their 'psychic' readings. On the other hand I know psychics who are much more in tune with my vibration. When they speak I listen!
The thing to understand is that even though I don't connect with certain psychics doesn't mean you won't! I know many people who swear by certain psychics as being the very best, even though I will not ask these psychics for help. Every psychic has the ability to help people, but every psychic is not for everyone!
My advice if to find psychics or one psychic that you're comfortable with. You might need to try different ones before you find one you can relate to. Avoid psychics who are merely 'fortunetellers' and nothing else if you can still find one today. Look for psychics who have been in business a long time and have helped a lot of people. Ask for references. But understand that you are unique. The psychic that you end up connecting with may not be the most popular. All that matters is that your new psychic helps you in a way that is meaningful to you.
